I WRITE regarding the letter from Ade Pitman, entitled 'Praise for Centre Scheme' (Barry & District News, April 10).
Mr Pitman writes of his quest to turn the Barry Island Tourist Information Centre (TIC) into a War Centenary Centre.
I think it would be great to have such a centre locally, and I value his efforts, but can't help thinking it would be better situated at somewhere like the Memorial Hall, Barry Library or the Civic Centre.
I am going to suggest that the proposed Barry Island TIC site, if it is to be given to community organisations, some thought should be given to donating part of it to the Barry Island Historical Group to use as a base to promote Barry Island and show the importance of its great heritage to today's visitors.
Barry Island these days is a shadow of its former glory. It has a special place in a lot of people's hearts. The least the it deserves is such a venue.
