Hollywood comes to Barry

First published in Letters

I WOULD like to thank everyone who came along to the Hollywood Night of Glitz and Glamour at the Mount Sorrel Hotel on April 4.

The gala dinner was arranged to raise funds for my two charities Ty Hapus and The Jam Fund. Special thanks has to go to Emma Lee Wagner and Tim Reynolds for providing the wonderful entertainment; singing a range of songs from the movies from the old classics to recent animated favorites. Guests were also greeted by a Johnny Depp "Captain Jack Sparrow" lookalike which set the tone for the evening.

Through the kindness of the businesses who supplied raffle and auction prizes, and of course the generosity of the guests present on the night, we have raised over £1,000 for the two charities.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Bob of Doctor Bob's Balloons who donated a red carpet and cardboard cut outs of movies stars and Oscars, which really brought a touch of Hollywood to the evening.

As my year as Mayor draws to a close, this was a fitting way to celebrate and raise funds for my two charities at the same time and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support over the last twelve months which has been a memorable experience and a great honour.

Cllr Claire Curtis

Mayor of Barry
