THE Welsh government now inhabits the lunatic fringe of British politics.

The proposal to ban e-cigarettes in public places defies logic. First, the anti-smoking charity ASH thinks it a bad idea and there is no evidence to suggest that the use of e-cigarettes encourages others to be come addicted to smoking. One might as well suggest that someone drinking a glass of lemonade in a pub will be tempted to become an alcoholic because they witness the consumption of beer, wine and spirits.

The scarcity of clear thinking extends to Westminster, where the national government plans to place graphic illustrations of the consequences of smoking on cigarette packets. Presumably, their next step will be to insist that the drinks industry labels all its products with examples of how alcohol can destroy lives through disease, violence, crime and drink driving. I don't think so, somehow.
