I AM a disabled senior citizen of Barry who loves to use Barry Station to visit Cardiff.
Usually, I’ve found travellers really helpful and I love the delightful waiting room run by Travellers in Mind.
However, the return journey is very stressful as it is impossible for me to climb over the bridge as I have a trolley for balance and I have noticed it is equally difficult for young families with prams and pushchairs. I usually go to Barry Island and back to Barry but this is very inconvenient, as in the evenings the trains wait considerable time to turn around.
I read in the Barry & District News last week (January 23) that there are plans to build an extra platform and I am keen to know if these plans include either a lift or ramp for the disabled.
A disabled friend of mine, who has had a stroke, recently visited Newcastle and said how useful the ramp was there for her wheelchair.
Unfortunately I can’t use the buses as I can’t walk far, but I’m told they are disabled friendly, so let’s hope it’s not a lost opportunity and that the trains and Network Rail are going to follow suit.
