I WOULD like to bring it to local residents attention that there are plans to build homes on the Barry Road Council Depot.

It is therefore important that locals are made aware of these proposals as it will have an impact on the local community.

The latest LDP (Local Development Plan) highlights plans to build on the depot site. It is intended to demolish the site and build 50 dwellings in its place.

Further information about the proposals is available from the Dock office or by emailing LDP@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.

This is one of two sites that has been identified in the ward with the other being at Ysgol Maes Dyfan.

The proposed housing for both equates to about 95 units.

The Council Depot site is to move to another area and this site will then make way for development.

It is therefore important that we get the infrastructure right for the both sites. On the Ysgol Maes Dyfan site I am fighting for much needed allotments to be made available for the community.

However, for some time I have been campaigning for a Hannah Street relief road to go from Dyfan Road to Gladstone Road.

Now is our chance to try and get this road by making sure that it is delivered as part of the condition along with the new homes. Speaking to many residents about this road many are supportive which is a good sign.

For many years now Hannah Street and the neighbouring streets have had to endure traffic travelling between North & South of the town making these roads in my opinion very dangerous. We must also have to remember that there is a school in Hannah Street and the volume and flow of the traffic makes it difficult for children to get to and from Jenner school.

I will not remain quiet and I promise to campaign hard to ensure we get this road which would be an important link in our town.

I will now be out and about discussing this proposal with local residents and trying to meet as many as I can in the coming weeks.

I feel that it is important that residents in the vicinity are briefed about the proposals and make their views known.

My personal view is that not only could this development provide a new road, but will also clean up the former Council Depot site.

For far too long Barry has been left out without the right infrastructure so we must be clear and tell the Labour-led Vale Council that there cannot be any homes built without this road going in place first.

I hope that the residents will let their views known to me when I soon call on them.

Independent,

Vale of Glamorgan Council.
