I REFER to the letter from Mike Dunn titled “Short-sighted decision” (Barry & District News, November 21).

I am not sure where Mr Dunn has obtained his information but the council has not taken any decision to stop providing dog waste bags.

We provide these bags to supplement our waste management arrangements and hope that they assist in encouraging responsible dog ownership.

It should not however be forgotten that if you own a dog you are responsible in law for cleaning up its mess. If for any reason dog owners are unable to avail themselves of a supply of the bags we provide then they must source an alternative arrangement. Nappy sacks are handy for this purpose and the supermarkets provide up to 300 bags for 35p as part of their lower value range. The bags, when securely tied, can be disposed of in any of our standard litter bins.
