Power to the people

PEOPLE across Britain are starting to see the benefits of getting together to buy their energy collectively.

The Cyd Cymru scheme has been developed and supported by stakeholders across Wales to help people take part in collective energy switching. The idea behind collective energy switching is similar to bulk-buying products in order to get a better price. However, in a collective switch those interested in receiving a better deal group together as a collective before approaching the energy suppliers. The larger the number of people that get involved, the more attractive the group of customers are likely to be to the energy suppliers.

Recognising this opportunity for residents to save money, the Vale of Glamorgan Council along with Cardiff Council, the Energy Saving Trust and other partners across Wales have developed a collective energy buying scheme called - Cyd Cymru / Wales Together.

With the support of the Welsh Government this scheme has been developed to ensure the best deal for any prospective participants in Wales. This will help address fuel poverty and make people more aware of the savings they can achieve by making their homes more energy efficient. Reducing the cost of energy bills is one way to help address fuel poverty, alongside this we aim to make people more aware of the additional savings possible by making their homes more energy efficient.

At a time when the costs of energy seem to be going up, ways to save some money have never been so important. The more people that group together the bigger the savings we could make! Currently there are nearly 4,000 people who have registered an interest, if you would like to add your name then just fill in the on line form at www.cydcymru-energy.com or call 08000935902…it costs nothing but could save you hundreds of pounds.
