Isn't it ironic?

I REFER to the front page article of the Barry & District News (October 17) and would like to congratulate the Friends of Weycock Cross, in particular Deborah, Frank and Barbara for the hard work they have put into fighting proposed developments on both Green Farm and Walters Farm sites at Weycock Cross.
I know they were delighted when the new Draft Local Development Plan (LDP) was published by the current Labour led Council, which showed that the two sites are no longer being considered for development.
The irony however was not lost on me in seeing the Conservative MP Alan Cairns in the front row celebrating with local resident, when it was his Tory Colleagues on the previous Vale Council that included Weycock Cross in their draft LDP with no information being shared with residents. It was the Labour Councillors for Dyfan and Illtyd wards who brought the news that 700 houses were being planned at the location and delivered posters to residents to highlight their opposition.
It seems to me that Mr Cairns is a very opportunistic individual who wants to forget minor details in favour of a photo opportunity. Whilst I acknowledge that the MP has attended meetings of the Friends of Weycock Cross, along with the local councillors, his memory seems to have been erased on why the residents found themselves in the predicament in the first place. Thankfully the residents of Dyfan and Illtyd wards do not have such memory lapses and can remember the disregard they were shown by the previous Tory administration.
