Smokers living in Barry wanted to help isolated older people

LONELINESS is a major issue for older people in Wales with half of all people aged 75 and over living alone, and 1 in 10 saying they are always or often feel lonely.
To combat this Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan provide a befriending service that supports lonely and isolated older people.
We currently are ware of three frail older people who smoke living in the Barry area who would like someone to visit for a couple of hours a week to chat and socialise and we need volunteers who smoke to befriend these clients.
Our befriending service works by assigning each older person a volunteer, who visits to provide a friendly conversation and companionship on a weekly basis. This relationship not only promotes wellbeing and confidence, but can also help the older person to remain independent in their own homes.
If you would like to make a difference to an isolated older smoker and can spare approximately two hours a week then we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website http://www.age-concern-cardiff.org.uk/volunteer-visitors/ or phone 01446 747654 to find out more.
