IT was very sad to read the letters from anxious Oak Field School parents about the rumoured closure (February 28).

It was particularly sad because now that we have the full facts all the upset and anxiety was totally unnecessary.

A discussion paper, which had not even been considered by the council cabinet, let alone approved, was leaked. Immediately Alun Cairns MP and Andrew R T Davies AM saw a political opportunity to embarrass the Vale council, and panicked hundreds of parents and teachers into thinking that it was decided to close their schools. It was a cynical political ploy to drum up votes, knowing the status of the leaked paper.

I would urge Oak Field parents not to let themselves be used in these political ploys. Anyone who believes that Vale Tories care about Gibbonsdown needs a long lie down in a dark room.
