Tax rise is shameful

I ATTENDED last week’s Vale of Glamorgan Council budget setting meeting and was very disappointed with the outcome.

We will have the second highest council tax rise in Britain at 4.8 per cent, despite a well costed amendment from the Plaid Cymru councillor Ian Johnson to bring this tax rise down to three per cent without cutting frontline services or jobs.

Inflation is running at 2.7 per cent and the Welsh average is 2.9 per cent, so why are we in the Vale paying so much more than anywhere else?

This rise isn’t fair on thousands of families who are already struggling to find the money to pay their bills and put food on the table, especially when Plaid Cymru had laid a serious amendment, which would have lowered this.

Shame on you Labour!
