Top school

UNDERSTANDABLY, feelings are running high in the face of potential school closures (‘Barry and Vale schools face uncertain future', Barry & District News, February 7). One point worth stressing is that Llancarfan Primary was judged outstanding when last inspected, making it one of the top performing schools in Wales (see www.outstandingllancarfan.com for details).

Yet according to Cllr Chris Elmore, ‘the primary aim of the proposals is to continue to improve standards’. With respect, even primary school pupils understand you don’t raise standards by closing the best schools.
