Car park problems

PARKING in Barry is a nightmare especially if you live around the town centre area.

One of the reasons is that people will not walk too far from their car to the shops which is understandable especially if they find it difficult to walk.

The car park in Wyndham Street, according to the signage on the entry to the car park, opens at 9.30am and shuts at 6pm, perfect timing for the average shopper.

Yet for some time now, the person who is responsible for the opening of this car park finds it would be better for whatever reason to open it at around 8.30am to 9pm (sometimes earlier) therefore allowing the shopkeepers and shop workers to park their vehicles all day, this in turn has a knock on effect, that as the car park is over half full by 9.30am you can only get half the cars in for the average shopper.

This is causing drivers to look for an alternative area to park, and where better than Wyndham Street itself, and the surrounding area.

The residents of Wyndham Street, which I am one, feel grieved by this council for first making Wyndham Street the main road to the shops when they made Holton road a pedestrian area, and second for not enforcing the parking hours on the car park.

I hope that this council might monitor this car park and inform the person who opens it up, that in large letters on the entry sign it states 9.30am and not when you feel like opening up.

I would like to stress that this is not a dig at the shopkeepers and shop workers as they need to park their cars - if they don’t know Holton Road multi-storey car park opens at 7am.
