Thanks to supporters of Victoria Park
10:05am Thursday 24th January 2013 in Letters
WE would like to thank the many people who have supported and contributed to the success of our programme of events held in Victoria Park, Barry, in 2012.
A varied programme of free events has seen the number of people attending grow substantially every year over the last four years.
Such events have enabled the Friends of Victoria Park group (formerly the Victoria Park Dog Walkers) to raise money for The Dogs Trust, PDSA, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Cardiff Dogs Home.
Monies collected have been largely raised by selling homemade cakes and refreshments at the events and knitting and selling dog coats.
So a huge ‘thank you’ goes out to everyone who made cakes and biscuits and who knitted coats; to people who donated wool and baking ingredients, and to the members of the friends group and other individuals who gave their time and energy to help organise and man the events.
A grand total of £3,259.50 was raised thanks to the people who supported the events by turning up, whatever the weather, to enjoy the entertainment and to buy our wares.
Similarly, we could not have achieved this fantastic amount were it not for the hard work of Jon Greatrex, the park manager, and the ‘boys’.
He and his team have worked hard to ensure that the park is at its best all year round and have readily undertaken the huge amount of work involved in setting things up for the events.
We sincerely hope that the funding for the role of park manager will be upheld in 2013 so that Victoria Park can continue to be the asset it is - not only for the Cadoxton community but for the whole of Barry.
