No more charity shops
9:59am Thursday 24th January 2013 in Letters
SO we have two more charity shops opening up in the town - one next to the Barry & District News office and one opposite in the old gas showrooms (Darlows Estate Agents), which makes four in as many yards.
Do we really need any more? We’ve already got loads.
Just how many second hand clothes do the people of Barry have to keep these shops going. Some of them are already struggling and are now selling new items, with members of staff standing outside most weekends selling badges etc.
Apart from the managers, the shops are manned by volunteers so no employment (paid).
I’m not against charity shops but surely they can’t all survive.
Once Asda opens will we have a lot of our smaller shops pulling down their shutters for good? Can we expect more card or gold shops or even charity shops coming to town?
