A BARRY Island trader has proved he is a 'host with the most' after scooping a prestigious hospitality award.

Peter Lee - owner of Coffee Cove & Wine Bar on Friars Road - earned the Bridges into Work Outstanding Achievement Hospitality honour, for his work at the Barry seaside resort.

39-year-old Peter, a former plumbing technical manager from Merthyr, embarked on the European funded Bridges into Work project - enabling people to gain skills and confidence - after he was made redundant.

His business has become known as a popular venue for local music and Peter and his partner Rhian, 38, have also welcomed former Blue Peter presenter and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Gethin Jones to the shop. "I've always wanted to have a wine bar," said Peter.

"I was made redundant and I thought I needed to do something. We love Barry Island and we wanted to be by the sea, so we thought 'let's go for it'.

"Every single course they sent me on I have used," he added.

"Barry Island is very nice and everyone has been so welcoming."
