ST RICHARD Gwyn RC High School scored its best ever GCSE results, in what staff called an 'astounding' achievement.

Students at the Catholic school achieved 81 per cent A*-C grades, with every student leaving the school with a qualification.

Top performers included Jessica Caterson, who achieved 11A*s; Donna Thomas with 8A*s and 3As; Theresia James with 8A*s and 3As; Katie Collins with 6A* and 5As; and Rosie Ashman with 6A* and 5As.

Rebecca Davies achieved three Cs and four Ds and is set to study Hair and Beauty at Barry College.

"I want to be a hairdresser in the future," she said.

Assistant Headteacher Mrs Burman described this year's results as "absolutely astounding".

"They are the best results we have ever had," she said.

"We are also very pleased with the boys' results this year, as they have exceeded our expectations.

"This is the first full cohort to follow the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification at the school and thanks must be given for the support and guidance of all the staff, especially the learning coaches," she added.
