A HOSPITAL worker who shaved his head in a hair-raising charity bid has made more than £1,000 - and was forced to shave off his eyebrows as a result!

In April, Dennis Day, a member of the housekeeping team at University Hospital Llandough, shaved off all the hair he had been growing on his face and head since the start of the year, to help raise money for new televisions for one of the wards he works on.

"I told everyone that if I raised more than £1,000 I would shave off my eyebrows - there was no going back once the money came in," he said.

The 54-year-old from Barry, known as Denwood to colleagues following a fundraising drive last year based on X-Factor twins Jedwood, was shorn and shaved all in the name of improving patients’ hospital experience.

"Everyone in Ward West Six is really happy," he added.

A large flat-screen TV has now been fitted in the day-room on West Ward 6, with smaller sets in patient rooms.

Dennis’ eventual total was £1,037.38.

"I want to say thank you to the Sea View Lads Angling Club and the Buccaneer Pub in Barry who have both been fantastic in helping me raise money," he added.
