Barry man's fundraising skydive for Haiti

A TRAINEE carpenter from Barry will be downing his tools and taking up parachuting instead - when he skydives for charity later this month.

Kind-hearted James Robertson, of Glenbrook Drive, decided throw himself out of a plane at the Swansea Skydive centre to raise money for UNICEF, which is currently actively involved in helping victims of the Haiti Earthquake.

The 25-year-old will free-fall at a speed of 120mph for 40 seconds before pulling the parachute and descending for the last 500 feet.

He said: "After the Haiti disaster I was thinking of ways I could help, and decided to skydive for UNICEF.

"They provide the most vaccines for children in the world, so I knew it would make a difference.

"I’m not really thinking about the jump so much as the fundraising.

"I have had a few sponsors so far but I am hoping to raise at least £500," he added.

"I work at JS Bowsher in the docks and my boss said he would support me, and my family and friends said they would sponsor me too.

"I am hoping to meet the target, so all sponsorship is much appreciated."

James will be collecting as much as possible before the jump – scheduled for February 20, depending on the weather.
