EVEN superheroes need their down time.
So when Barry Island’s Spiderboy Aidan Adams-Brunt met TV’s Secret Millionaire ‘Spiderman’ Kevin Green, they chose to ‘do lunch’ – and chat about the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK.
Earlier this year, the charity gave six-year-old Aidan, of Phyllis Street, the opportunity to star in his very own Oscar-winning film called Spider-Boy – The Movie, which premiered in Cardiff Bay in May.
And last week, Welsh land development expert and Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire Kevin, a supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK for more than three years, met up with Aidan at TGI Friday’s in Cardiff.
The restaurant chain provides complimentary meals to families backed by the charity, and staff pulled out all the stops when the Superheroes burst through their doors.
Barry Island Primary pupil Aidan was chosen to receive a special wish after the charity heard how he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, aged nine days old. He subsequently developed plastic bronchitis and still takes medication every day.
TV star Kevin, 48 and a dad-of-three from Burry Port, West Wales, said: "I support children because I lost my sister at a very early age with Lupus, and because I’m in a position where I can."
Make-A-Wish suggested he dress to impress for the occasion and arrive as Aidan’s very own hero.
Kevin said: "They suggested I dress up as Spiderman as it would be a good laugh.
"I went to a hire shop and they sold it to me really cheaply – £10 – because I explained what it was for.
"It’s great to see the sparkle in the kids’ eyes when the charity surprises them,” he added.
"It never ceases to amaze me what wishes are granted."
Following his superhero encounter, Aidan said: "I enjoyed going in the car and making the noise.
"But Kevin doesn’t know how to do the Spiderman moves!"
Aidan’s mum Eve, 32, said they had all been over the moon to meet Kevin.
"The charity has made a world of difference to our family,” she said.
"So many good things have come from the Make-A-Wish Foundation that it’s hard to remember what life was like before it all happened." There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening illness. The charity needs to raise £5 million in 2009 to continue granting magical wishes.
