BOSSES at a new Barry town centre store have requested a friendly police presence for "crowd control" purposes, when the shop opens next Tuesday (October 6).
Customers at other 99P Stores in the UK have formed queues from midnight in advance of the doors opening.
And now bosses are searching for one VIP (Very Important Pennysaver) to dazzle them with a slogan that will earn them the honour of cutting the official ribbon and gulping down a toast from a 99p champagne flute.
The winner will also have the chance to smash the trolley dash record, held by Southampton shopper Sally Cooper, who scooped 265 items in 99 seconds.
The new store – in the former Woolies on Holton Road – will create around 30 full-time and part-time jobs.
Co-founder and commercial director, Hussein Lalani said: "We feel proud to take over the mantle and consider ourselves custodians of the Woolworths brand.
"When Woolworths was set up it connected with the British public and we believe we are now doing this."
The store opens to the public at 9am.
To enter the competition, say in up to nine words, "Why I Love a Bargain!"
Entries can have a Barry or a Welsh theme or simply just rhyme.
Email your entry, by midnight on Sunday, October 4, to: barry@gbpublicityltd.com
