VALE MP Alun Cairns has added his voice to claims that the Welsh Government’s ‘flawed’ funding system has let down Vale schoolchildren.

Vale council leader John Thomas wrote to the Welsh Government and Vale parents last week explaining that education in the Vale is funded by less than £600 per pupil compared to the Welsh average.

Mr Cairns has responded by launching a petition for fairer education funding.

Mr Cairns said: “School pupils in the Vale of Glamorgan should not be disadvantaged due to the flawed, out of date funding methodology employed by the Welsh Government which discriminates based on geography.”

A Welsh Government spokesman said: “School funding is the responsibility of local councils - we expect them to deliver our shared aim of high quality education for every child and set budgets at a level which gives every school the resources needed.”
