KFC in Barry have reopened, following a closure due to a lack of chicken lasting several days.

The Heol Ceiniog restaurant reopened today (Wednesday, Febuary 21), but was one of hundreds of the fast food outlets closed during the early part of the week. Many others have been operating a limited menu as a result of the shortage.

KFC had cited "teething problems" with their new delivery partner, DHL, as being behind the issue.

Problems began emerging over the weekend, just four months into a contract between KFC and the courier firm, who had promised to "set a new delivery standard" upon being awarded the contract.

In a statement released on KFC's Twitter account on Saturday (February 17), the firm said: "We've brought a new delivery partner on board, but they've had a couple of teething problems - getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!

"We won't compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours."

A KFC spokesman said: “Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest (of the restaurants) back up and running as soon as possible – but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”
