Construction work is scheduled for completion soon.

The Docks Incinerator Action Group (DIAG) gathered at a closed meeting between NRW, DIAG and Vale AM Jane Hutt.

DIAG chairman Alexis Liosatos handed the 10,734 signature document to NRW operations manager Nadia De Longhi as the second official deadline for responses closed.

The meeting, chaired by Ms Hutt, took place at the Castleland Community Centre on Monday, September 11.

Following the meeting, NRW operations manager Nadia De Longhi said: “Following the end of the consultation on the further information we received from the applicant, we will now assess all the responses and the reports we received from Capita.

“It will take us a few weeks to go through all this information.

“We will then have a better idea if further information is needed from the applicant, and when we’re likely to decide whether to grant the environmental permit.

“If we are minded to issue a permit for this facility, we will undertake a further public consultation on our draft decision.”

DIAG chairman Alexis Liosatos said the meeting “went well”.

Mr Liosatos and Ms Hutt confirmed NRW had agreed DIAG could continue to gather more information.

Ms Hutt said she would be chairing a meeting with DIAG and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service on the fire prevention plan in place at the Biomass site at a future date to be confirmed.
