AROUND 1200 runners made a colourful splash on Barry Island’s beach when they took part in Ty Hafan’s Rainbow Run on Saturday, May 13.

The second annual run, in aid of the Sully-based children’s hospice, raised thousands of pounds to help life-limited children, young people and their families across Wales.

The event is looking likely to smash its £60,000 target.

Nation Radio broadcast live from the beach, with performances from groups Brawd and Misfit to motivate the runners and entertain the crowds who were supporting them.

The seven paint stations, three of which sponsored by One Stop, Convey Law and GM Financial, ensured runners were coated with a rainbow of bright coloured paint as they triumphantly crossed the finish line.

Ty Hafan mum Micaela Wilson, whose seven-year-old son Cai is supported by the charity, was one of this year’s runners.

She said: Ty Hafan has been a lifeline for us and we feel extremely privileged to have such a special place on our doorstep.

“Never did I imagine I’d use this magical place but I am glad I have come across it in my journey in life. I have made lots of friends going there and met many special, inspirational people.

“It has taught me a lot and never to take life for granted. Everyone makes us feel welcome and nothing is ever too much for anyone.”

She added: “Without people fundraising, Ty Hafan wouldn’t be able to run and we wouldn’t have this fantastic facility and for parents of children like mine, life would be more difficult than it already is.”

Lauren Sadler, major giving manager at Ty Hafan, thanked all who had taken part.

She said: “Whether you ran, volunteered, sponsored us, provided entertainment or first aid, or just came to the beach to support us, you all helped to make the day really special and we’re thrilled to have raised so much money to help life-limited children and families across Wales.”
