A BARRY supermarket worker has helped his store raise £536.49 for Penarth’s Marie Curie Hospice by having his head shaved, but leaving his beard intact.

Tesco staff member Kristian Hillard raised £196 for the hospice, as part of the Great Daffodil Appeal 2017.

The 23-year-old of Lydstep Road, Barry, was joined by Dave Sharpe, John Mitchell and Aaron Boyer who also undertook the sponsored head shave.

Customers were intrigued to see the clippers coming out as the work colleagues volunteered to have their heads and beards trimmed in front of the shop's main entrance.

Marie Curie Community Fundraiser, Clare Wright thanked the customers and staff for their support of the charity.

Staff were presented with a letter and certificate of thanks from the charity, which provides end of life care for people living with terminal illness and their families.

Kristian Hillard presented the money to the charity and said: “We had our heads shaved because a few colleagues have been affected by cancer.”

Marie Curie community fundraiser Clare Wright said: “We are very grateful to Tesco in Barry for all their support.

"This is the second workplace fundraiser they have organised recently in aid of the Marie Curie Hospice.”
