AN AWARD-WINNING Barry restaurant is under new ownership and has re-opened to diners. (February 16).

The team formerly behind Habana Bar and Grill, have taken on The Gallery, in Broad Street, and hope to continue in its critically acclaimed ways catering for classic dining.

Chef Richard Patterson and fellow chef Matthew Beck met when pursuing their catering careers in college in Barry.

Mr Patterson is an all-rounder and his previous catering experience has seen him operate as head pastry chef at the St David’s hotel, Cardiff Bay.

Specialising in pastry, he has also served at the Celtic Manor, in Newport, and Dyffryn House in the Vale.

Mr Patterson said: “We acquired The Gallery three weeks ago. The lease was up on Habana and we wanted to open up a local business.”

Mr Patterson said the restaurant, with 50 covers, would source seasonal produce from Barry’s High Street shops, continue to host its bar downstairs, and extend the opening hours with acoustic entertainment scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

He said they hoped the dining experience would appeal to everyone with the menu changing on a monthly basis.

The Gallery, under its last ownership, was the Food Awards Wales Restaurant of the Year in 2016.

The business, established four years ago, amassed a number of honours including Wales’ Waitrose Good Food Guide Reader’s Restaurant of the Year 2016; Welsh Sustainable Restaurant of the Year 2014 and 2015 and Food Made Good 2016.

It was also Squaremeal’s 75th Best Restaurant in the UK 2016.

It was put up for sale after previous owner Barnaby Hibbert decided to spend more time with his family.

The Gallery is open from noon to 11pm with food served from noon to 2.30pm and 6pm to 9.30pm; Wednesday to Sunday. Closed Tuesday.
