THE Vale council has announced its new Barry Island beach huts hire charges and rental policy.

A report put before cabinet members on Monday, February 6, provided an update on the use of the huts during the summer last year and agree the operation and management of them for 2017/18.

The cost of running the beach huts from April 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 was £13,338 and the income received from all rentals was £13,420 – leaving a small surplus.

“It has proven very positive with visitors,” the report said. “Though the survey was of overall satisfaction to Barry Island as a destination as opposed to the huts specifically, the findings are very positive with 15 of the 60 people surveyed saying that the beach huts motivated them to come to Barry Island.

Existing annual ticket holders have until February 28 to state whether they wish to renew.

Rental fees for day hire will be £15 for a small hut in spring/summer and £25 for a large hut. The fee will be £5 and £10 respectively in the autumn/winter season.

Annual season ticket holders will be charged £450 for a small hut and £600 for a large hut – an increase of £100.

From April this year annual tickets will be sold via a random selection process.
