A SCHEME set-up in Barry is helping struggling mothers cope with the financial and practical burden of a new baby.
Coastlands Family Church in Barry launched Baby Basics, which provides essentials which include a Moses basket filled with baby clothes, nappies, towels, sheets, blankets, maternity towels, shampoo and wash and a soft toy suitable for a new born baby.
The church is highlighting the service following calls from Barry Town councillor Shirley Hodges calling on the council to provide Baby Boxes to new mothers in the area..
Baby Basics also provides previously used baby equipment like cots and prams.
Everything is free of charge and referrals are made by midwives, health visitors and other professionals.
Baby Basics is open to new mothers across the Vale who need support.
Donations are also gratefully received, however items like second-hand mattresses aren't accepted but the charity is hoping to secure finance to help purchase new ones.
For more information please contact Baby Basics coordinator, Pauline Bryne, via email at valebabybasics@yahoo.com or call 07933 918031.
