THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has apologised after it sent out 50,000 letters containing errors.

Some of the electoral letters had listed postal voters as needing to attend a polling booth and vice versa and other Welsh letters contained contact details in English.

A Vale Council spokesman said: “The council would like to apologise for errors contained in around 50,000 letters recently distributed to households, containing the names of those registered to vote.

“These errors appeared on the letter only and not in records kept by the council.

“No information has been lost to third parties and residents’ right to vote in council elections in May remains unaffected.”

The spokesman added: “Households are advised to wait for the corrected letter. If all information is up to date, no further action is required.

“The council’s electoral services team are currently in discussions with suppliers to ensure the cost of rectifying this mistake is kept as low as possible.

“At this stage I am unable to say exactly what the cost will be.”

Voting registration can be done online at www.gov.uk/registertovote or by telephone on 01446 729552.
