A CAFÉ has celebrated its first month of opening success – crediting the power of advertising and using supplies from other Barry small businesses.

Cafe Mount, in the Mount Rooms hotel, Porthkerry Road, Barry, has been inundated with customers following its opening in January this year.

Director of Roof Guard Services, Matthew Doyle and wife Sarah, 38, a charity sector worker run the café.

They offer fresh teas and coffees alongside freshly made cakes and pastries with the aim of welcome all to meet, relax and socialise.

The couple credited their article and advertisement in the Barry & District News and their social media posts for the public’s enthusiastic response and are supporting our ‘Your High Street: Use It Or Lose It’ campaign.

The duo are supporting Sully-based charity Ty Hafan as they grow their business and they say that deriving fresh ingredients from local businesses has been a key factor in their initial success.

Mr Doyle, 37, said: “The month has been phenomenal. We can’t complain. The first week we had every table full. The phone has been ringing off the hook. We’ve had three baby showers, a funeral wake and a massive run on afternoon teas.

“It’s gone through the roof on our Facebook page and people have been saying ‘I saw you in the Barry & District’.”

Slimming In Barry has hired one of its rooms for a class and a pianist has used it as an evening venue for a get-together with her guests.

Mr Doyle said they were opening earlier, at 7am, due to demand, and were now broadening their foodie range.

Jacket potatoes and soups are also being served up and customers can sit out on the veranda to enjoy a glass of wine.

He added that providing value for money, quality produce and excellent customer service was key to them wanting to support the ‘High Street: Use It Or Lose It’ campaign.

“We are interested in supporting local businesses.

"We live in the community and it’s all about keeping the income local.”
