TWO teenagers who were arrested following an assault which was filmed and viewed thousands of times online have been expelled from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg.

The assault took place on November 2 last year at Buttrills Playing Fields . Footage which showed a schoolgirl being kicked and punched on the ground was uploaded onto various social media sites following the assault.

Ysgol Bro Morgannwg head teacher Hywel Price said that following a lengthy investigation, in which more than 50 statements were taken and mobile phone videos were examined the school had decided to permanently exclude two girls, aged 13 and 15.

Two other pupils were given fixed term exclusions.

Mr Price said: “This reflects the seriousness of the incident and is the most severe sanction the school could enforce. Two other pupils were given fixed term exclusions.

“This is a good school with an excellent academic and extra-curricular commitment where the safety of all our pupils is paramount. The incident was wholly contrary to the standards and behavioural expectations of the school. I have never dealt with something of this nature before.”

Mr Price thanked all members of the school community, including the parents of all those involved, for their cooperation.

He also acknowledged the support provided by staff, the governing body and the Vale council “during what proved to be a very difficult time for the school.”
