BARRY Town Council has discussed the planning application submitted by supermarket giant Aldi.

The council found no objection with the current plan, provided that the Vale of Glamorgan Council Highway Authority is satisfied that the development will not "cause harm to communities" and "is consistent with the sequential test".

At the meeting on Tuesday, December 7, Councillor Shirley Hodges did raise one concern.

She said: "The main thing I will say is that I hope there will not be any major disruption to junctions."

Aldi resubmitted plans last month for a new store in Barry, which would be located on the Ty Verlon estate, near Mcdonalds on the junction of Cardiff Road and Sully View.

Previously, in September 2015, the Vale council's planning committee rejected the plan, due to the "negative impact" a new supermarket would have on businesses in the area and other reasons.
