SOUTH Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has shown his support for Breast Cancer Now's Wear It Pink initiative and is urging Vale residents to do the same.

Wear It Pink Day takes place on Friday, October 21, and will raise money for life-saving breast cancer research.

The campaign raises close to £2 million a year and anyone can take part by wearing pink and donating what you can.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and one in eight women will face it in their lifetime. Breast Cancer Now’s aim is that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with the disease will live.

Mr Davies said: “Wear It Pink Day is a fantastic initiative and every year I secretly enjoy it since it gives me the excuse to add a touch of pink to my wardrobe.

“It may be a bit of fun but breast cancer is a serious condition that one in eight women in the UK will get at some point.

“Breast Cancer Now hope that their research will mean that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with the disease will survive, but to do that they need your support.

“Therefore, please join me on October 21 in wearing pink, donating what you can and standing up to this awful disease.”

Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive of Breast Cancer Now said, “It’s wonderful to see so much support from AMs for wear it pink. It’s a great opportunity for friends, co-workers and families across Wales to have some fun, wear something pink and show their support for those affected by breast cancer.

“Far too many women are still losing their lives to this dreadful disease. On Friday, October 21, every cake baked, every feather boa or pink tie worn and every laugh shared will help us create a future where no one dies from breast cancer.

“We will all be standing together, with colleagues and friends, to stop breast cancer taking the lives of the people we love – and we very much hope you’ll join us.”
