PETS at Home in Barry will be raising money for the RSPCA from today to help animals in need.

Activities will be run by the store to collect donations for the RSPCA, which collected and rescued more than 115,000 animals in 2015 alone.

Customers can buy charity pin badges or choose to take part in the 'round up to £1' initiative, where customers can round up the cost of their shopping to the nearest pound, with the difference being donated.

There will also be chances to win prizes with the instant win scratch card which will be available throughout the week for £1 until October 2. All money raised will be donated to the RSPCA.

Alex Jones, store manager, said: “We held a similar fundraising weekend last year and managed to raise more than £63,000 across our stores in England and Wales. However, we’re hoping to beat that target this year to help support the great work done by the RSPCA."

RSPCA assistant director of enterprises Melanie Verity said: "We are very grateful to Pets at Home and their generous customers for helping to fundraise to support the RSPCA's vital work on the frontline of preventing animal cruelty.

"The RSPCA is a charity funded by public donations and our cruelty line receives a call every 28 seconds - the money raised through Pets at Home's RSPCA week will go directly to helping save the lives of those animals most in need."

The appeal is being supported by Support Adoption For Pets, the charity established and supported by Pets at Home, which has raised more than £3.1 million in the last year alone thanks to the fundraising efforts of store colleagues and customers through fundraising events such as this.

The charity also helped more than 1,000 re-homing centres and animal charities in the UK, including the RSPCA, since it was established in 2006.

In addition, there are dedicated Adoption Centres in some of Pets at Home’s 425 stores across the UK.
