A MOTHER from Barry is one step closer to buying a headstone for her triplets following a successful fundraising evening.

Kirsty Hawkins, who tragically lost triplets earlier this year, has managed to raise £571 which will help pay for a deposit for the headstone she wants.

Family, friends, and supporters turned out for the charity function at Barry Rugby Club on Friday, August 12 to support the cause.

Miss Hawkins, 29, of Woodlands Road, described the evening as "moving and fantastic".

"It had been the first time I had left the house without feeling a big sense of dread," said the mother of three. "I did become tearful once I arrived, but the entire evening had an amazing atmosphere.

"I was completely overwhelmed. At the end of the day, even though the night was wonderful, I couldn't have done all of this alone, but with old school friends, family and shop keepers turning up it made the night a success."

The charity evening, which took place from 7.30pm until midnight, featured an array of events including an auction, a free buffet, and three raffles - where five bottles of Prosecco were up for grabs.

But it was Miss Hawkins' daughter Tayla, 13, who caught many people's attention with her performance.

"Her singing was amazing - everyone was taken in," said Miss Hawkins.

With the raised £571 and other collected donations, Miss Hawkins plans to put down a deposit for a headstone this week.

She added: "I'm very eager to put down this deposit. I just want my three sons to have a headstone now.

"We're just one step away from our overall aim."

Barry Rugby Club has invited Miss Hawkins to hold another event should she wish to raise additional funds for the cause.
