A NEWLY-CONSTRUCTED footpath on Barry’s multi-million pound development will be dug up after signage posts were incorrectly installed.

Contractors responsible for the £230m Barry Waterfront development will be told to remove two metal posts sited in the middle of a narrow pedestrian path.

The posts, minus a sign, prevent users passing – forcing them and any bicycles, pushchairs, or mobility vehicles and wheelchairs onto the road either side.

Vale council cabinet member for building services, highways and transportation, councillor Peter King said: “The position of the signage posts has been raised with the developer’s contractor as unacceptable, with a request that they be re-sited so as not cause obstruction to the footway.

“The road has not yet been formally adopted by the council, even though the council and consortium having agreed to open the road to provide access to Harbour Road car park and one-way off Barry Island, to improved traffic flows and assist visitor and resident access during the peak season.

"The road and footway will be adopted by the council in future, involving a detailed inspection and road safety audit which will ensure the road is safe and fit for purpose, and that signage posts are in the correct place."
