A BARRY nightclub aiming to support the young son of a soldier who died following an incident in Barry, has raised thousands of pounds in his memory.

Thomas Julian Sloman died following a disturbance on Broad Street in the early hours of Saturday July 2.

A fundraising was organised at BarCocoa, on Broad Street, on Friday July 8.

Club co-owner and friend of Mr Sloman, Scott Walters said: “Between the door money which came in and a raffle, the total was about £4,500. And with all the buckets and people calling in to make payments by PayPal it looks like about £10,000 in total.

“It was such a good night.

“All the money will be going into a bank account for Tom’s little boy.”

Mr Sloman died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, shortly after the incident earlier this month, despite efforts of paramedics and police at the scene.

Following Mr Sloman’s death, his family paid tribute to him and floral tributes were left in the area.

His gamily said: “He was a loving son, devoted father and boyfriend, brother, grandson, uncle and nephew.

"He was deeply loved by all his family and friends.

"It had been his honour to serve his country as a member of the Welsh Guards (Prince of Wales Company) - he served in Afghanistan.

"He had recently left the army and was looking forward to the next chapter of his life.

"He was a good guy with a heart of gold, and will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.”

A 42-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries, until September 26.

No further action was taken against a 29 year-old man who was also arrested following the incident.
