FREEMASONS in Barry will open their doors to the public to reveal more about what goes on in an organisation traditionally perceived as secretive.

Loyal Sportsman Lodge will host an open evening at the Barry Masonic Hall, Broad Street, on Friday.

The event, at 7pm, will involve a short informal talk on freemasonry, famous sporting masons and the Loyal Sportman Lodge.

There will be a tour of the building, and light refreshments afterwards, with an opportunity to ask questions.

This is the first of many opportunities to visit Barry Masonic Hall and the other 21 halls throughout South Wales, over the next 18 months.

The buildings, which are part of the rich heritage and history of their communities, host more than 160 lodges, with 10 Lodges based in Barry.

Freemasonry is about to celebrate 300 years since the formation of the United Grand Lodge in 1717.

As part of the Tercentenary, the South Wales Province will be inviting the public to Heritage Open Days, and have a variety of events to showcase the charitable achievements.

Loyal Sportsman Lodge welcome all visitors to the Open Evening.
