JOB centre managers say the employment market is in good health and if you want a job there’s one out there.

Vacancies in the retail sector continue to lead to a decrease in the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits in the Vale of Glamorgan, latest stats show.

Statistics released for the 18 to 24-year-old age category yesterday, show 300 people as unemployed - a drop of 80 people claiming unemployment related benefits and a 21 per cent decrease from the month of May 2015.

Overall, 1360 people are claiming unemployment related benefits – a drop of 175 at 11 per cent.

Work services manager for the DWP, Jobcentre Plus, Darren Gibbon said Cardiff’s retail industry was responsible for the decrease with opportunities also in contact centres.

Mr Gibbon said: “There’s lots of things in Cardiff and more recently Home Bargains. There are more opportunities – it’s quite vibrant – and we will help you find a job. It’s ABC – any job, a better job and then hopefully a career job.”

Secretary of state for work and pensions, Stephen Crabb said: “Secure employment and a decent wage are key to transforming the life chances of people right the way across the country, so I’m delighted to see another strong set of figures this month.

“There are more people in work than ever before and wages are continuing their upward climb. There’s good news in Wales, where the number of people in work has risen by 42,000 in the last year, with 1.44 million people in employment.

“Our economic plan is delivering jobs and security right across the UK.”
