FAMILY and friends of ovarian cancer campaigner Lesley Woolcock have installed a plaque on a Barry Island bench.

The plaque has been inscribed and mounted in her memory, following her death on May 17.

It says, 'A brave and inspirational woman, loving wife, mum, nana and friend. From all your family and friends'.

An Aphrodite Appeal she started – specialising in women's gynaecological research – raised £2,000 from a ladies night, at the Queen B boutique, in Penarth, on May 24.

The awareness campaign is set to continue with her family, friends and supporters vowing to ask assembly members to help women afflicted by ovarian cancer.

Queen B owner and life-long friend of Mrs Woolcock, Jodie Tanner said: “It was a privilege to hold the event and an honour to be her friend.”

Mrs Woolcock’s sister, Alison, added: “It's fantastic. Lesley is still raising money to fight cancer. We are going to write to all assembly members asking for early testing to be promoted by GPs in the hope that Lesley's journey doesn't have to be another woman's journey. So many women die from ovarian cancer and we want to put it to a stop. We thank all who have given and will be asking all those who support Lesley to contact their AM and those with a responsibility for health, to help us combat the disease.”
