A BARRIER has been installed at the entrance to Y Rhodfa, on the waterfront area of Barry, in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour.
The Vale council said this week that the action has been taken following a large number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.~
A spokesman said: "Historically, residents have reported that large numbers of vehicles had been congregating in the area, which was leading to anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.
"Neighbourhood policing had been increased in the area to monitor the situation, but it was decided that the best course of action would be to provide gated access to the road.
"Gating the car park overnight, will ensure that residents are not exposed to anti-social behaviour and still allow the car park to be used for leisure during the daytime."
The barrier was put into place and locked for the first time last week. It will be opened at 7am and closed at 7pm on a daily basis by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s in-house security team, until it is decided that it is no longer required.
