A BARRY couple have revealed the inspirational tale behind a fun online Barry Island video which has gone down a storm worldwide.

Craig Holmes and Aimee Bannister, both of Barry, have racked up more than two million views of their video of Aimee being hit by a fish as she is filmed talking to camera, in stormy weather, on Barry Island’s eastern promenade.

The caption reads: “When you’re trying to vlog and get hit by a fish.”

The footage has even made it Down Under with Australia’s Network 10 giving it coverage and continuing the debate on whether it is fake or real.

Former Bryn Hafren comprehensive pupil, Aimee and Barry Comprehensive pupil, Craig have undergone a real-life health struggle with Aimee having survived cancer and Craig suffering a broken neck.

The couple met at his leaving do as he was preparing to travel the world, but her cancer meant she couldn’t go.

She asked Craig out on Skype in August 2008 and had the health all-clear a few months later. She flew out to see Craig in Australia in December 2008 and they travelled the east coast together.

A week after she left Australia, Craig broke his neck in New Zealand, but Australia gave them the travel bug and they embarked on a “massive adventure” around the world.

The couple said: “Life for us hasn't always been a bunch of lols and good times.”

Their vlog: Kinging -It was born in 2014 and since then they have notched up travels in America, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

They have also successfully managed to start their own clothing brand, YouTube channel and website.

The pair said: “We have big dreams and aspirations to make something of ourselves and let the world know what we’re doing.

“We chose to make YouTube videos to show people what's out there. We want our videos to inspire others to travel too.

"You never know what's going to happen. We are blessed that we are healthy enough to do it.”

Miss Bannister said: “It's our first huge vid – so it's like our baby.

“The main hype around the video is - is it real or not? We believe it has become very popular because of this question.

“We have been filming/vlogging since September 2014 when we left Barry to start a huge travel trip around the world.

"We documented out time away with a video for each country then finally settled in New Zealand where we got jobs in a cookie bar and a bungee company. We then started to weekly vlog.

"Our channel has grown strongly since, but this video has given us another little booster.

“We thought we could make a successful travel channel that would entertain people and inspire them to travel too.”
