BARRY's Art Central gallery is hosting an exhibition called "Don’t Stand By: Flames for Humanity’s Heroes", to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2016.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s arts development team have worked with Barry based artist and teacher Nicola Tucker - and also with primary schools across the county - to create an inspirational installation of the children’s and professional artists’ work.

The focus of the exhibition is an installation which sees pupils' pledges never to "stand by" in the face of suffering, incorporated into acetate flames which hang from the ceiling.

Accompanying this artwork is a thought-provoking and powerful short film produced by award winning film maker and photographer Josephine Sowden and featuring pupils from Cadoxton Primary School in Barry.

The film has been supported by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and is one of 12 selected art works from across the UK that will be on show at the at the UK’s International Holocaust Memorial Event in London.

The exhibition also features a collection of drawings by pupils from across Cardiff and the Vale collated by Race Equality First, a new work by Nicola Tucker entitled "Empty Torso" and work by the artist George Little who has captured his childhood memory of life in Swansea during the Blitz.

"Don’t Stand By: Flames for Humanities Heroes" can be seen at the Art Central Gallery, Barry Town Hall, King Square, Barry now until Saturday, February 27.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 3.30pm. For further information about this and forthcoming exhibitions visit www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/artcentral
