A BIGGER and better log flume is on its way to Barry Island, to replace the legendary ride demolished earlier this year.

Showman Henry Danter is continuing his pledge to bring Barry Island's Pleasure Park back to life by buying, not only a brand new log flume, but also a a giant ferris wheel so large that Weston-super-mare will be visible from its peak.

Both rides are en route from Europe and Mr Danter is hoping that they will be up and running on the Island by February.

Barry Island's iconic log flume was demolished in April of this year, due to being in a state of disrepair, shortly after the Danter family took over the Pleasure Park site.

Now Henry has said the ride that will stand in its place will be an even bigger and better version.

"It's being made by the same people who made the original," he said. "They're the best log flume makers in the world.

"This one will be larger than the old one and it's got two chutes instead of just the one. It's going to be very impressive.

"We also have a giant wheel coming. It's so big that you will be able to see Weston from it.

"They have both got to be shipped over from abroad, but they are coming and i expect them to be running no later than February.

"I'm looking forward to that and lots of other things we have going on this winter at Barry Island. We're going to make it into the place it should be."

Barry Island's log flume was considered the most iconic symbol of the Island by many visitors, given its position as the first ride visible on the drive in from Barry.

Prior to its demolition earlier this year it had stood at the front of the Pleasure Park for 35 years, being built in 1980.

Previously the site was home to The Scenic Railway, which was knocked down in 1973.
