TWO youngsters had a tour of the Barry Dock RNLI lifeboat station after winning the Barry Island-based charity’s May Day sea safety competition.

Joshua Parsons, five, and Cieron Bamom, nine, were welcomed to the station by volunteer crew and education volunteers on Wednesday, August 12.

The children and their families were shown around the Trent Class All Weather lifeboat, the flood rescue truck and D-class lifeboat, and shown around the lifeboat station buildings.

All visitors were excited to be at the station and enjoyed their visit.

As the Lifeboat is on service 24/7, visits of this kind are infrequent, but education volunteers often take school and youth groups around the station to give them a flavour of the work that the RNLI carries out.

Return visitors travel from as far as Birmingham.

Education and visits officer, Liz Matthews said: “Our coasts provide a brilliant playground for people of all ages but like any other activity, appropriate precautions should be taken. Always swim at a lifeguarded beach and let friends of family know what your plans are.”
