A FARM favourite has been taking life in a typical cat’s stride following a recent sudden illness which has concerned his devoted human fans.

Fred, a ginger tabby and white cat, who patrols Barry’s Amelia Trust Farm, needed veterinary attention after becoming, the farm said, “pawly”.

The farm celebrity had been seen limping around the public areas and had stopped eating.

Amelia Trust Farm is a working farm of 160 acres, on Five Mile Lane, Barry.

It provides an alternative education for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and is open to visitors who can purchase foods produced in its grounds.

A farm staff member said: “Many of Fred’s fans had become very worried as he was trying to hide from the public view. Fred has also been quite upset recently because he has been missing a member of staff that has left the team. Luckily, Nicole from Vets 4 Pets came to Fred’s rescue by kindly offering to help him get on the road to recovery! Thanks to Vets for Pets, Fred is now recovering and is receiving a lot of TLC from the farm staff, volunteers and young people.

“Fred is doing well. He is being the purr-fect patient, and is taking his medication. He has been chilling out in the sunshine and getting lots of fuss from his fan club.”

They added: “We think Fred is approximately six or seven years old. He came to us as a kitten with his buddy Ginger. Fred was involved in an accident when he was a youngster. He was found in the car park with a crushed tail which resulted in him having to have his tail amputated. Fred - "the cat with no tail" - and Ginger are celebrities around the farm and are much loved by our young people and visitors.”
