THE Vale council's social care scrutiny committee have looked into how home care is delivered in the area following allegations made by the BBC's "Week in Week Out" programme.

The special debate was requested by Barry Independent Councillor Richard Bertin who said he was extremely concerned to hear about the claims of poor service being delivered by Barry-based 1st Grade Care on behalf of the council.

It was claimed that on one occasion an elderly woman was left alone on the floor awaiting an ambulance while the carer was told to go to their next call.

The scrutiny committee agreed that a further more in-depth report will be considered once a formal investigation has been completed by the council.

Council officials said they are taking the matter very seriously and a full and thorough investigation will be carried out looking into the allegations made by the programme.
