THE rehoming of Barry's High Street Post Office has been given the stamp of approval with new Sunday opening hours on the cards.

The new High Street branch will be moving to the Best One store and will be open seven days a week.

The service, which launches at 1pm on Wednesday, October 14 will be provided at Post Office terminal which will sit alongside the retail till.

Post Office services will be available during the store’s opening hours, 7am to 10.30pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday and 7am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

The opening hours, which will increase by an extra 73 hours a week, will ensure that the branch is more convenient, as people will now have more choice of when to visit. The branch will open earlier and close later every day. It will also mark an end to Wednesday afternoon and lunchtime closing.

The Post Office will have robust security procedures in place, and anyone handling transactions will be fully trained on all operational and service issues, including customer privacy to ensure they meet Post Office standards.

The current High Street Post Office will close at 5.30pm on Tuesday, October 13. During the short period of closure before the new branch opens customers will need to use other Post Office branches.

Will Russell, Post Office Regional Manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.

"The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade."
