PALMERSTON Primary School pupils can enjoy a friendly outdoor playhouse situated at the school, thanks to a donation made by Dow Corning.

The Play Pod is filled with recycled objects which will encourage children to use their imagination in an educational and inclusive environment. The official opening of the Play Pod was attended by pupils, teachers, parents as well as Johanne Stacey-Davies and Catherine Lewis from Dow Corning, who donated £16,000 to the project.

Children can also access the Play Pod outside of school hours during clubs and is open for community use, providing a social space for children and families.

Theo Jenkins Roberts, aged six, who helped to cut the ribbon during the opening of the Play Pod said: “I love the Play Pod because I can use my imagination and build dens with my friends”. Seren Haughton, also aged six, who helped Theo said: “The Play Pod is really cool and it has the biggest stuff and I like making a big spaceship.”

Johanne Stacey-Davies, Educational Links coordinator for Dow Corning in Barry said: “We always aim to continually support the local community and it was a pleasure to offer the donation to Palmerston Primary School for their new Play Pod”

Mark Middlemiss, headteacher at Palmerston Primary School said: “The Play Pod project will improve the community’s social spaces, as well as helping to develop children’s social skills, imagination and cooperative aspects of play in a fun and friendly environment.

“We wouldn’t have been able to complete this project if it were not for the generous donation made to the school by Dow Corning; we are very grateful.”
